(Continued from Part 2)
When artist Don Punchatz illustrated the story of "Joshua" in 2000-01, most (but not all) of the text was identical to the 2 previous versions done by Frank Bolle. However, there's enough of a difference (including the fact that he only did the first 5 out of the 6 episodes Bolle did) that I'm putting this separate. To compare, click on the link and open a separate browser for "Joshua, Part 2".
I just noticed that Graeme Hewitson's version has "Continued" on the last episode-- and it does seem like there's an episode missing! There was no gap between that and the next episode, where a NEW artist debuted. I wonder what happened there?

Joshua, Part 2
(Continued from Part 1)
Once again, artist Frank Bolle wound up illustrating the story of "Joshua" twice-- using the SAME text. It's short enough that, for easy comparison, I'm going to run EACH episode back-to-back.
It's interesting comparing them this way, that in the 1980 version, Joshua is depicted as a warrior (very much in keeping with the whole "MACHO!!!" era of Ronald Reagan's 1st term as President), while in 1990, Joshua looks more like a Rabbi. Also, the August 1990 version of the fall of Jericho is much more tame-looking than the savage brutality depicted in the May 1980 episode.

Joshua
(Continued from Moses)
I'd bet more people are familiar with the story of "Moses" from the films THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, or, more recently, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, than they are from actually reading THE BIBLE. Well... the story of "Joshua" is what happens NEXT.
Essentially, the Israelites, who'd gone from being farmers to slaves, after being freed and then spending 40 years wandering in the desert of Sinai, turn into invaders and conquerors. That's quite a jarring turn-around, isn't it? Having been forced by famine to flee "The Promised Land" given them by God (see the stories of "Abraham" and "Joseph"), they decide it's time to take it back-- BY FORCE.
I'm suddenly reminded of a line in the STAR TREK episode "The Omega Glory", when "Cloud William" declares, "What was ours-- is ours AGAIN! It will never be TAKEN from us again!" Hmm...
The BOYS' LIFE series has covered this story 8 times so far, beginning in
April 1955. When Creig Flessel did it then, it was basically the "epilogue" to the 2nd version of "Moses". But as I mentioned before, I held it back until here, so I could re-present it grouped together with all the later versions.
Each of the first 3 versions gets increasingly more in-depth than the one before it...

Moses, Part 11
(Continued from Part 10)
5 years after the previous time, the 10th version of the story of "Moses" appeared in BOYS' LIFE magazine.
This one featured the 3D computer work of Scottish artist Graeme Hewitson, the only contributor to the series who's had a long career of Bible-related art outside of the magazine.
This is the latest version of the story... so far!

Moses, Part 10
(Continued from Part 9)
Only 4 years after the previous version, the story of "Moses" was told in the BOYS' LIFE series for the 9th time.
The artist on this one was Anthony Castrillo. Unlike the previous 3 versions in a row, this one was much shorter, and contained entirely new text.
